America… Well, Eastern Iowa area… I have one question for you… are YOU smarter than a 5th grader?
There’s nothing better than getting off of work and having a few drinks with friends at your local bar, right? And how many times have you gone out to an establishment only to find out it was trivia night? Most people, upon discovering this, eagerly participate – the small few watch on the sidelines entranced by both the questions and answers, but still answering the questions they know the answers to quietly among themselves. Well, now BowlDogs is joining the ever growing popular pursuit of beer and knowledge, and you can too!
For the past few weeks BowlDogs has been testing our wits with an organization known as Diva Training Entertainment every Thursday. Led by pro singer, comedian, entertainer, and music teacher Megan O’Brien – also known as DJ Deadlift – this program gives people the opportunity to get together with their friends to challenge themselves and each other over drinks if they partake, and have some fun while they’re at it. Megan brings fun and humor to the table every time she takes the stage. By adding clever quips to each question and answer cycle, she’ll be sure to get a laugh out of you and get a few fun facts at the same time.
She has a trivia segment titled “R U SMRTR” featuring a wide variety of questions ranging from spelling bees to word scrambles. She’s even been known to have a bowl-off from time to time. I, myself, have attended a few of these trivia nights and had a blast. From answering questions I didn’t even know I knew the answer to to downing brews with my coworkers and laughing about the absurdity of the incorrect answers I gave, the entire experience was one to remember. I was astounded at the hidden knowledge of the people around me, the way they could pull facts from the backs of their brains in an instant. Things I couldn’t bring to the forefront of my mind if you paid me.
I mean, who doesn’t dream of being on a game show and one upping the competition with your total competence? Not that it’s totally guaranteed that you will, but with the amount of categories Diva Training Entertainment comes up with you’re sure to find your niche in something. From riddles, did-ya-knows, to dumb knowledge, there’s got to be something that you didn’t know you knew. If you don’t find the answers on your own, Megan is known to add a few hints to each query as well. Pay attention to the music she chooses to play after she asks her questions, just a tip! But don’t tell anyone I told you.
Overall I think it’s clear that BowlDogs is the place to be on Thursday nights. Not only that, but it’s the place for any battle of the brains you may be thinking of having, or just stumbling upon. Whether you’re a self proclaimed brainiac or not, Diva Training Entertainment’s trivia nights have something for everyone and Megan finds a way to bring out the genius in each contestant so don’t worry about feeling inadequate. You’ll be surprised at how much you know, and maybe… just maybe… you’ll find out you’re smarter than a 5th grader too.
